| Et pastores errant in regione eadem vigilantes, et custodientes vigilias noctis super gregem suum. | There were shepherds, abiding in the fields, keeping watch over their flocks at night. |
| Et ecce Angelus Domini stetit juxta illos, et claritas Dei circum fulsit illos, et timuerunt timore magno. | And, lo, an angel of the Lord appeared, standing beside them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. |
| Nolite timore! Ecce enim evangelico vobis gaudium magnum, quod erit omni populo: | ""Do not be afraid! For, behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people: |
